......is a theory of personality, relationships and communication, and a theory of child development. It was founded by Eric Berne (Games People Play, Penguin 1964) and his ideas continue to be developed by Transactional Analysts today. TA is used by counsellors, health professionals, psychologists, educationalists, trainers, managers, organisational consultants and social workers in the public and private sector to promote good practice.
TA's particular contributions to working with people are rooted in its basic concepts and the opinions for change and healing arising from them:
Ego states: understanding personality, behaviour and 'locked in' trauma
Transactions: how communication gets crossed and how to uncross it
Strokes: our need for recognition from others; how to give it and get it
Games: irritating or unhealthy relationship patterns and how to give them up
Scripts: our (unconscious) life-plans, how we demonstrate them today, and how we can re-write them
