Transactional Analysis - A Humanistic Psychotherapy
The underlying philosophy of TA is respect for the intrinsic worth and dignity of human beings and their capacity for change. These beliefs are fundamental to the quality and maintenance of the counselling and psychotherapeutic relationship. The basic link between Eric Berne and Carl Rogers, the founder of Person-Centred Counselling, is the belief that individuals can regain access to their true selves through the provision of a respectful and facilitating counselling relationship.

Equality is affirmed in the making of a treatment contract, when therapist and client agree to work to stated goals. Together they explore how the client may have been preventing him/herself achieving those goals. For example, they can gain insight into conscious and unconscious forms of communication, shown in the pattern of transactions. They can gain an understanding of the clients unconscious life plan, which, once in awareness, can be changed and resolved.
